For startups and new brands

Activewear Manufacturer for Startups and New Brands

Launching your first activewear range, or moving on from your first supplier? New Dong Huang works with new brands from the first brief to the first production run: choosing styles and fabric, building the tech pack, sampling and bulk production in our factory in Dongyang, China.

Our minimum is 500 pieces per colour per style. This page explains how new brands plan a first range around it, and when private label or custom development makes more sense.

Why new brands work with NDH

A first range has little room for mistakes. We focus on getting fit, fabric and the first order right.

Help with the tech pack

No tech pack yet? Send references, sketches and your target price. Our design team helps turn them into a tech pack a factory can produce from.

Proven styles to start from

Start from styles we already produce, then add your colours and branding. It cuts sampling rounds and risk for a first order.

One team as you grow

Move from private label to fully custom styles, add categories and increase volumes with the same team. Our factory has passed New Balance’s factory audit.

How to plan your first activewear range

Pick a narrow first range

Two or three hero styles in one or two colours, cut from one fabric, is easier to sample, cheaper to stock and quicker to learn from than a full collection. Add styles once you know what sells.

Work backwards from price

Decide your retail price first, then the cost price that leaves you a margin. That tells you which fabric and details you can afford. How to calculate activewear margins.

Budget for sampling

Expect at least one round of fit changes before bulk. Sampling costs less than fixing a bulk order. What activewear sampling costs.

Get the tech pack right

Measurements, fabric, trims, labels and colour references in one document avoid most misunderstandings with a factory. What to include for trims in a tech pack.

Startup activewear FAQ

Do you work with startups and new brands?

Yes. Our minimum is 500 pieces per colour per style, and we help new brands plan a first range that fits it.

Do I need a tech pack to start?

No. References or a sketch with your target price are enough to start. Our design team can help build the tech pack.

Private label or custom: which should a new brand choose?

Private label is faster and lower risk for a first range because the fit and fabric are proven. Custom makes sense when your designs are the point of difference. Many brands start with private label and add custom styles later.

How do I find a clothing manufacturer for my startup?

Look for a factory that specialises in your category, check its audits and certifications, ask for fabric swatches and a sample, and make sure you can talk directly to the team running your order.

What is the minimum order quantity?

500 pieces per colour per style.

Can you help with labels and packaging?

Yes: logos, printed or woven labels, swing tags, polybags and cartons to your specs.

Where is your factory?

In Dongyang, Zhejiang province, China. We work with brands in the US, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe.
